What is farm gleaning?

LifeCycles utilizes our existing systems, specialized knowledge and relationships within the local farm community to undertake the volunteer recruitment, training and relationship building required to operate a farmer supported gleaning program.

Farmers participating in the project currently receive in-kind tax receipts for the estimated market value of product. We work to efficiently harvest and distribute this product to neighborhood based food hubs in the region. This year, we are working with the Mustard Seed and Fernwood NRG to distribute produce from June – November.

in 2016: 8,200 lbs of produce gleaned from 7 farms ranging from .5 acre – 150 acres. Market value of gleaned produce was $24,400. We gleaned 40 different varieties of vegetables and provided over 44,000 servings to the Mustard Seed.
