Vandana Shiva Visits Victoria

Vandana Shiva Visits Victoria!

February is shaping up to be a busy month at LifeCycles! Not only are we moving our office and launching our new product line, we are thrilled to be co-hosting Dr. Vandana Shiva in Victoria on her BC tour, along with our partners Harmony Foundation of Canada and UVic’s Institute for Studies & Innovation in Community-University Engagement. One of just two stops in the province, organized by Michelle Tsutsumi of Golden Ears Farm, Dr. Shiva will first be presenting in Vernon at the annual Certified Organic Associations of BC Conference before heading to the island for what will be an outstanding day of discussions on resilient communities. Here is more info on the event in Vernon, with tickets available from Eventbrite.

Her public talk in Victoria on February 29th at 8 p.m. at the Farquhar Auditorium at UVic, will include exmaples from around the world of initiatives that are community-led and regionally driven, yet have a global influence. Vandana Shiva has long been a vocal advocate for the critical importance of seed sovereignty to food systems, gender equality in farming, and the interwoven nature of plant biodiversity and human cultural diversity, while speaking out against the affects of the global industrial food system on ecosystems, small-scale farmers and traditional food systems. More of her work can be read about at www.navdanya.org and www.vandanashiva.com.

We hope you’ll attend, invite a few friends, and be inspired by the words of this food justice powerhouse! A portion of the proceeds from this event will go towards furthering the work we do at LifeCycles. Come visit us at our display in the foyer of Farquhar Auditorium during the evening- we’d love for you to stop by to hear more about our diverse projects and ways you can get involved in 2016.
