Urban Development
Every time a new building pops up on the edge of the city, a bee nesting space is destroyed. Undeveloped areas are usually valued as potential commercial and housing sites, not as wilderness to preserve and appreciate.
Since I am a wood-dwelling bee, I prefer to live in areas with lots of trees, streams, and native plant life.
Urban sprawl takes away the trees and flowers that I love, while hiding the soil I need under huge concrete buildings and streets. The little natural habitat that is left behind often ends up polluted with car exhaust, smog and chemical run-off. Imagine trying to build a home out of soil and water that is filled with harmful toxins!
Since our natural habitat is being engulfed by cities, it is vital that the city helps out by providing safe places for us to live and nest. LifeCycles has helped to solve this problem by building bee gardens in Victoria to give us the housing we desperately need.
