Regional Food Policy Planning
LifeCycles goal is to provide leadership and support for the development of a
common vision and articulated plan for a healthy localized food system in the
Capital Region. In addition LifeCycles aims to support networking and capacity
building initiatives to strengthen our Island-based agri-food sector.
The primary focus of LifeCycles’ Food Policy work is to support an ongoing
collaborative process to develop a Regional Food Charter and Food and Health
Action Plan (project called Putting Food and Food Policy on the Table). This
work is done under the direction and support of a joint advisory committee of
the Capital Region Food and Agriculture Initiatives Roundtable and the Healthy Communities Subcommittee (HCSC) of the Roundtable of the Environment
of the Capital Region District.
LifeCycles on behalf of the above collobrative coordinates a participatory
multi-sector process to identify and articulate current opportunities and challenges
in the region.

Community Food Action Planning
The Community Food Action Planning Initiative works closely with different
communities in establishing programs designed to help them maintain a close
connection to their food security. This is done through initiating projects
that secure access to supplies of good quality local food through affordable,
healthy, environmentally sound and culturally appropriate food supply and distribution
systems. Citizens, local government, community organizations, the private sector,
researchers and academic institutions work together to address challenges and
opportunities for local food security. Look at the different case studies to
see which communities are involved and what sorts of programs they have started.
